Executive Functions in Core Academic Skills





Executive Functions, such as attention, memory, self-control and problem-solving, are foundational to both academic and daily life tasks.  This unique course offers participants a deeper understanding of how breakdowns in core executive skills can result in breakdowns in core academics.  Using current research, the connections between EF and reading, writing and math skill acquisition will be made clear, allowing for more accurate assessment, instruction and intervention.

February 16, 2022 – Session 1:  Executive Functions as the Basis of Academics

February 23, 2022 – Session 2:  The Role of Executive Functions in Reading Disorders and Dyslexia

March 9, 2022 – Session 3:  The Role of Executive Functions in Writing Disorders and Dysgraphia

March 16, 2022 Session 4:  The Role of Executive Functions in Math Disorders and Dyscalculia


Learning Objectives:

  • Identify key executive functions
  • Choose 3 key EF disruptions found in dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia
  • Examine research-based interventions for each key academic area
  • Accumulate resources, tips and tools for intervention

Presenter:  Lori Benson Adams, MEd


Bio: Lori Benson Adams, M.Ed.,  has extensive experience with children with learning, emotional, and behavioral challenges.  Having taught in public, private and home school settings, worked in the early intervention field, and in private practice for the past 35 years, Lori brings a unique mix of personal and professional insight to the table.   She presently serves as a private educational interventionist, and also contracts with a variety of local and national schools, public and private, to provide ongoing assistance to children with special needs. Additionally, Lori is a nationally-known speaker who presents classes to parents and professionals on topics such as Dyslexia, Visual Learners, The Critical Importance of Play, and Executive Functioning Skills.  She is a contributing instructor with Sensational Brain, and The Maude Le Roux Academy, and is a highly sought-after Keynote and Session Speaker at Home School, Parent and Professional Conferences.

Cancellation policy: Payment is due in full with registration and there is a non-refundable fee of $35 at any time. If the course participant cancels within 30 days prior to the course starting date, the reimbursement would be 75% and within 2 weeks of the course; reimbursement would be calculated at 50%.
