DIR203: The Advanced DIR/Floortime Certificate Course

This course will occur over 14 weeks, 2 hours weekly at the same time each week. DIR203 is focused on caregivers, teachers, and/or other care providers to promote functional, developmental, emotional capacities.

Target Audience: Occupational, Speech and Physical Therapists, Teachers, Physicians, Nurses, Parents and Care-takers of those with learning, developmental and behavioral challenges

Instructional Methods: PowerPoint, Case Studies

Assessment: Each participant has to present 2 case studies according to a rubric scoring method.

Certificate of Competence will be provided

  • Students successfully completing this course will demonstrate the ability to describe all of their own functional emotional developmental capacities, interactive styles and coping tendencies under stress.
  • Students successfully completing this course will demonstrate the ability to identify at least three of their own strengths in their understanding and application of the DIR® Model and Floortime Intervention
  • Students successfully completing this course will demonstrate the ability to identify at least three of their own areas that require further development in their understanding and application of the DIR® Model and Floortime™ Intervention
  • Students successfully completing this course will demonstrate the ability to apply at least ten in-depth, discipline-specific concepts learned in DIR® 201 and DIR® 202, analyzing how individual differences of children or adults can interfere or help promote the mastering of the 9 functional emotional developmental capacities
  • Students successfully completing this course will demonstrate the ability to summarize the child and adult’s unique profile based on all his or her 9 functional emotional developmental capacities and individual differences
  • Students successfully completing this course will demonstrate the ability to assess their own interactive and “goodness of fit” styles that can better support development, based on different caregiver and children’s individual profiles and family cultural differences
  • Students successfully completing this course will demonstrate the ability to explain how other interventions that the family might choose could be integrated, when beneficial to the child, into the home and school program using the DIR® model and DIRFloortime® principles as the guiding developmental framework
  • Students successfully completing this course will demonstrate the ability to cite at least 10 studies supporting the DIR® model and Floortime intervention, including the central role of affect and
